back in high school, an art teacher asked the class to paint a still life and said, “you can use black, white and one other color.”

“how am i supposed to be creative with only one other color?” a young tim asked his teacher.

“that’s just it: you have to be even more creative,” she said.

i got it: it’s the limitations in life that force us to be creative. when there are 100 crayons in front of you, it’s hard to pick the right color: when there are three, it’s a lot easier to let the imagination fuel the drawing rather than the materials. which is more important, anyway?

this album was made in a similar fashion: with limited resources. i did my best with what i had, all by myself. it is not perfect and was never intended to be — it’s about me and my ideas and not worrying or caring about having just the right crayon for the job (or in some cases, even knowing how to use it!).

"bw&1" was recorded entirely at lonewolf studios (read: "the room in the basement where tim keeps his noisy stuff"). all the sounds were made by me except my good friend steve tobey played drums on "her soundtrack" because i couldn't cut it the way i wanted it and "mediocrity" because he said he liked the song and flattered me into submission.

it was mixed and mastered (with a lot of production help!) by scott white at whitehouse productions. scott and his studio are super awesome.

as for the content: all the songs are basically about love and music. is there anything else, really...?

thanks for listening,

— tim
